As the novel coronavirus spread across Connecticut from west to east, myriad nonprofits were being called upon to assist residents as illness struck, job losses mounted, and safety nets were strained.
Nonprofits both large and small have seen an increase in requests for help and an uptick in users, whether it’s food pantries, homeless shelters, or nature preserves. While managing the healthcare aspects of the virus, Hartford HealthCare is witnessing the important impact of these NPOs.
“These small Gales Ferry, Conn (March 1, 2020) -- United Way of Southeastern Connecticut has announced a round of capacity building grants to increase effectiveness of Member Agencies of the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Bank, which is operated by United Way. The series of grants was made possible through a two-year grant from Wells Fargo to address food insecurity across the country.This funding opportunity for Member Agencies supports local Emergency Food System programs and investing in their effectiveness and Eastern CT – The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT Foundation has announced the distribution of $120,000 to 37 eastern CT non-profits that will improve the quality of life for thousands of children in the region.
This year’s disbursement reflects the highest-ever amount distributed by the Foundation and marks a twelve percent increase over the 2018 grant disbursement.
The Foundation raised funds throughout 2018 with fundraisers including the 7th Annual Bowl-a-Thon at High Rollers Luxury Lanes at Foxwoods Eastern CT – The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT Foundation has announced the distribution of $107,400 to 38 eastern CT non-profits that will improve the quality of life for thousands of children in the region.
The Foundation raised funds throughout 2017 with fundraisers including the 6th Annual Bowl-a-Thon at High Rollers Luxury Lanes at Foxwoods Resort Casino in April and the 34th Annual Holiday Gala held at Mohegan Sun in December.
“I would like to thank the community for its continued support of Groton Community Meals is taking the phrase “soup kitchen” to a new level, hosting their first-ever Soup-a-Thon on Friday, November 3 at 6PM at the Groton Elks Club.
The Soup-a-Thon will feature an assortment of soups from local restaurants and chefs, including Ocean Blue Catering, Valentino’s Restaurant, Sneekers Café, Par 4, and Groton Community Meals’ own Rob Lawrence, a retired chef and Navy veteran. Guests will enjoy 10 samples, along with light hors d’oeuvres, and vote on their favorites to honor the Mystic, CT – Union Baptist Church is pleased to announce that it is hosting its first annual CommUNITY Fair on Saturday, September 16, 2017, 12 to 4:00 p.m. at 119 High Street in Mystic. Admission is free and open to the public.
The first-ever CommUNITY Fair is designed to bring the Mystic residents and visitors together for a fun afternoon. This community-minded event joins other efforts from Union Baptist Church to share their faith and serve the world with love.
